When you think random number generation, it's tempting to think
that in the field of computer science it is unique. However,
an element of randomness in games has been a way to make them
that much more compelling long before the advent of modern electronic
computers. Today, videogames use random seeds to procedurally generate terrain
or make enemy encounters or bosses more randomized. Throughout human history
randomness has also existed in games, usually in gambling. The recent popularity of
trading card deck building games broke this status quo as well.
